Skyline had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 9-10 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Meridian Mustangs. The Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Mackenzie McIntyre tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Skyline got a massive performance out of Kyleigh Williams, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave Williams a new career-high. Alice Benson was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Skyline kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Meridian only managed six hits.
As for Meridian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured six losses in a row.
On Meridian's side, Elena Clark-Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered nine earned (and three unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up 19 Ks.
At the plate, Claire Hartenstein made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season.
Looking ahead, Skyline will square off against Handley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Meridian, they will take on Warren County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.38 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
