Volleyball Recap: Black River's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

After flying high against First Baptist Christian last Thursday, Black River came back down to earth. The Pirates fell 3-1 to the Columbia Raiders on Tuesday. The game marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Columbia scored at least 17 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-17, 20-25, 25-21.

Maryn Biddle paced Black River's offense, picking up 14 kills. Biddle got some help from Morgan Kubitz and her 32 assists. Kubitz was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Having lost for the first time this season, Black River fell to 4-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Black River is set to face off against their familiar foe Keystone at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Columbia will square off against rival Wellington at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
