Greenwood hasn't had much luck against Plainfield recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Woodmen will be playing at home against the Quakers at 6:00 p.m. The last four games Greenwood has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, Greenwood didn't have quite enough to beat Triton Central and fell 4-2. That's two games in a row now that the Woodmen have lost by exactly two runs.
Tessa Hammons put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other pitching news, Greenwood got a good showing from Maddy Cravens, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Cravens gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April.
Hammons wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gillian Semmler, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.
Meanwhile, Plainfield had already won 17 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it 18 on Monday. They came out on top against the Pioneers by a score of 6-2.
Like Greenwood, Plainfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Kami Arnett. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Arnett was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kenzi Arnett was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Kylie Fish was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Plainfield's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Greenwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-17.
Greenwood couldn't quite get it done against Plainfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Woodmen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
