Basketball Recap: New Athens Comes Up Short

New Athens was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Red Bud Musketeers and fell 62-35. The Yellow Jackets lost against the Musketeers in their previous head to head back in February, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 61-13 score last time.

Despite the loss, New Athens saw an underclassman step up: freshman Brooke Deterding posted 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Deterding is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played.

New Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Red Bud, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.

New Athens will head out to take on Dupo at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Red Bud, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Columbia at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
