Baseball Game Preview: Overland Trailblazers vs. Mountain Range Mustangs

The Overland Trailblazers will square off against the Mountain Range Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Overland has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

While Overland's victory against Kennedy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Overland skirted past Kennedy 12-11.

Humberto Perez tossed a big game, tossing 6.1 innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits.

At the plate, Ruben Luna and Uriel Hernandez did most of the damage at the plate: Luna went 3-for-5 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Hernandez scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave Hernandez a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyron McDonald, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Mountain Range came up short against Pomona on Saturday and fell 7-3.

Mountain Range saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Williams, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Mountain Range's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Overland, their win ended a 15-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.

Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Overland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .526. However, it's not like Mountain Range struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
