Baseball Game Preview: Concord Minutemen vs. South Bend Saint Joseph Huskies

Concord is 0-8-1 against South Bend Saint Joseph since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Minutemen will take on the Huskies at 5:30 p.m.

Concord is leaving town to face South Bend Saint Joseph after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Minutemen fell just short of Lakeland by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Myles Jones was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Concord saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Norwood, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, South Bend Saint Joseph had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Warsaw 9-7.

Jacob Snyder looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Joe Washburn was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of A.J. LaSane, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Concord couldn't quite finish off South Bend Saint Joseph in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Minutemen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
