Recap: Thomas Jefferson Gryphons vs. Shelby Golden Lions
In what's become a running theme this season, the Thomas Jefferson Gryphons gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They really took it to Shelby for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-41 win at home. The win was nothing new for Thomas Jefferson as they're now sitting on five straight.
Leading Thomas Jefferson to victory were Samara Jones and Brooklyn Twitty. Jones scored 19 points along with six steals, while Twitty dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Twitty has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julissa Bell, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Shelby's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamiah Hopper, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Nakia Blake, who scored eight points.
Thomas Jefferson's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Shelby, they have fallen quite a ways from their 26-2 record last season and are now at 5-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Thomas Jefferson will take on Highland Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Shelby, they will be playing at home against Burns at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Burns has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
