The Peninsula Seahawks will face off against the Prairie Falcons at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Peninsula 0.2, Prairie 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Peninsula's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Mount Tahoma with a sharp 17-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Seahawks, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.
John Browand looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Matthew Saunders and Cole Scholer did most of the damage at the plate: Saunders went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run, while Scholer scored two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Saunders has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Pete Browand, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Peninsula always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mount Tahoma only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Prairie, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Evergreen by a score of 6-1 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Prairie let Owen Dirks 2025 and Issac Watson 2025 run wild. Dirks 2025 scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Watson 2025 scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Dirks 2025 also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Cave 2025, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Peninsula's victory bumped their record up to 4-0-1. As for Prairie, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Peninsula hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .398. However, it's not like Prairie struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
