Basketball Recap: Council Grove Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

On Tuesday, the Council Grove Braves came up short against the Santa Fe Trail Chargers and fell 48-39. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Chargers are ranked 34th).

Despite the loss, Council Grove still got an impressive performance from Brycen Palmquist, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 20 points and five steals. Palmquist has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Drew Buchman, who posted six points and nine boards.

Council Grove's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. As for Santa Fe Trail, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Council Grove will square off against Osage City at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Osage City will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Council Grove surely won't give up without a fight. As for Santa Fe Trail, they will face off against Iola at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Iola is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.3 points per game this season.
