The West Vigo Vikings will take on the Bloomfield Cardinals in a tournament on Friday. Bloomfield took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on West Vigo, who comes in off a win.
Bloomfield will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: West Vigo extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Vikings put the hurt on South Vermillion with a sharp 21-2 victory.
Janelle Sullivan and Cameron Funk were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Sullivan tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Funk pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. At the plate, Sullivan scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Funk scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, West Vigo got a massive performance out of Lily Krause, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Krause a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaleigh Lindley, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
West Vigo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .638. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Vermillion only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Bloomfield suffered their closest loss since April 23, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Springs Valley by a score of 5-3. The Cardinals have struggled against the Blackhawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Bloomfield saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zylah Hendricks, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
West Vigo's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.3 runs this season. As for Bloomfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
West Vigo took their win against Bloomfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 21-0 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
