Softball Game Preview: Alton Redbirds vs. Freeburg Midgets

The Alton Redbirds will venture away from home to challenge the Freeburg Midgets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Freeburg took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Alton, who comes in off a win.

Alton took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They skirted past Granite City 3-1. The victory was some much needed relief for the Redbirds as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Makenzie Rayfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alton's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Henkhaus, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Laci Fischer also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Freeburg came up short against Tolono Unity on Saturday and fell 10-7.

Freeburg's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Alton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-18.
