Softball Recap: Desert Hot Springs Takes a Loss

Desert Hot Springs extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They lost 18-11 to the Cathedral City Lions. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Lions this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-0 defeat back in April.

As for Cathedral City, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-13 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

For Cathedral City's part, Sayuri Toledo made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over 4.1 innings pitched. Toledo has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off four runs, three doubles, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Melanie Vargas, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI and one run. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Liliana Ramirez, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Desert Hot Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cathedral City, they will head out on the road to face off against Big Bear at 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
