Basketball Recap: Hillgrove Comes Up Short

If Hillgrove was feeling good fresh off their 69-37 takedown of Osborne last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hillgrove Hawks fell just short of the Campbell Spartans by a score of 48-45 on Wednesday. The Hawks have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Hillgrove still got an impressive performance from Aeris Macon, who went 7 of 12 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds. Macon continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Yolanda Floyd, who posted nine points and three steals.

Saniya Binion continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Campbell, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. Binion's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Marlie Battle was another key player, putting up three points along with seven assists and four steals.

Hillgrove's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 13-7. As for Campbell, they pushed their record up to 18-2 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season.

Hillgrove has already played their next matchup, a 47-41 victory against McEachern on the 24th. As for Campbell, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 43-36 win against Harrison on the 24th.
