Softball Recap: Copper Canyon Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Copper Canyon's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Sierra Linda Bulldogs as they made off with a 13-2 win. For the Aztecs, this counts as revenge for the 15-10 victory the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Kayla Gonzalez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Jamie Molina was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Goldie Chambers, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Copper Canyon's win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-10. As for Sierra Linda, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Copper Canyon beat the Bulldogs by a score of 13-2 on Thursday.
