Softball Recap: Victoria West Finds Playoff Glory Versus Milby

With a playoff win on the line, Victoria West rose to the challenge on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Milby Buffs.

Elaiyna Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Celeste Kubicek, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Abigayle Stephens was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Victoria West is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-13 record this season. As for Milby, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 10-4 record.

Victoria West will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Buffs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Saturday.
