Horizon Honors is 9-1 against Gilbert Classical Academy since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Horizon Honors' favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Gilbert Classical Academy has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
On Wednesday, Horizon Honors made easy work of Heritage Academy and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won seven contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Zach Hull was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double.
In other batting news, Horizon Honors got a massive performance out of Lucas Holweger, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Max Miller, who went 2-for-3 with three runs.
Horizon Honors always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heritage Academy only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Gilbert Classical Academy's offense. They lost 10-0 to San Tan Charter on Monday.
Gilbert Classical Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Horizon Honors, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Horizon Honors has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gilbert Classical Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Horizon Honors got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 against Gilbert Classical Academy by a conclusive 23-2 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
