Basketball Game Preview: Coral Glades Jaguars vs. Palmetto Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Jaguars face off against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Coral Glades is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Park Vista with a sharp 83-61 win. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Cobras are ranked 127th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Coral Glades' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Donovan Swain, who shot 5-for-8 from long range and almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine boards, and Gavin Reed, who went 7 for 9 en route to 19 points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds. What's more, Reed also posted a 78% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in January of 2024. Kyler Theophile was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Palmetto waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They took their game with ease, bagging an 87-39 victory over the Barracudas. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Panthers have posted since January 12, 2024.

Coral Glades pushed their record up to 19-7 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.7 points over those games. As for Palmetto, their win bumped their record up to 16-10.

Coral Glades didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Palmetto when the teams last played back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 64-59 victory. Will Coral Glades repeat their success, or does Palmetto have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
