Basketball Game Preview: Crestview Bulldogs vs. Marianna Bulldogs

Two dominant forwards in Sean Johns and Mason Mobley are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Crestview Bulldogs will be taking part in a tournament against the Marianna Bulldogs at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Crestview has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Crestview is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Fort Walton Beach just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 76-72 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Bulldogs came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Vikings are ranked 205th).

Meanwhile, Marianna entered their matchup against Thomas County Central on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Marianna was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 69-68 to Thomas County Central. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (61), the Bulldogs still had to take the loss.

Crestview will need focus on slowing down Rj Mayes, one of several Marianna players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 16 points. That's the most points Mayes has posted since back in December of 2023. Mobley was another key player, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds.

Crestview's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2. As for Marianna, their defeat ended an 18-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-2.
