Basketball Recap: Akira Hori's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Kankakee Trinity Academy over Heritage Christian

Kankakee Trinity Academy suffered their closest loss since February 13, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Heritage Christian Defenders by a score of 62-60. Kankakee Trinity Academy was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Heritage Christian earlier this season, when they won 69-63.

Kankakee Trinity Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Akira Hori, who went 6 for 15 en route to 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Hori is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cory Hathaway, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 18 points.

Heritage Christian can attribute much of their success to Alex Ophoff, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Ophoff has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Regnerus, who went 5 for 12 en route to 11 points and five boards.

Kankakee Trinity Academy's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Heritage Christian, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-6.

Kankakee Trinity Academy has already played their next match (against HomeSchool Resource Center), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Heritage Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Victory Christian Academy at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Victory Christian Academy has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 188 points over their last three games.
