Softball Recap: Union Grove Christian Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Union Grove Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Calvary Christian Cougar. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-2 on Thursday.

Morgan Donovant made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

Donovant wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bethany Yarbrough, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Union Grove Christian pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Calvary Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Grove Christian will face off against True Gospel Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Grizzly have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.8 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Calvary Christian, they will challenge Oak Level Baptist Academy at 3:30 p.m. on the 25th.
