Softball Game Preview: Chesaning Indians vs. Byron Eagles

The Chesaning Indians will square off against the Byron Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Chesaning hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

Chesaning took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Ovid-Elsie.

Meanwhile, Byron came up short against New Lothrop on Thursday and fell 8-4. The Eagles have struggled against the Hornets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Lilly Quimby and Gracie McDowell did some serious damage despite the final result: Quimby went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while McDowell went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Emma Glass also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Chesaning is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Byron, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Chesaning skirted past Byron 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
