Baseball Recap: Holy Cross Has No Trouble Against St. Henry

Holy Cross lost a heartbreaker the last time they played St. Henry, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. The Indians blew past the Crusaders 10-4 on Wednesday. Ten seems to be a good number for the Indians as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Sam Addington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. He is becoming a predictor of Holy Cross' success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Holy Cross let Ben Issenmann and Jimmy Holtz run wild. Issenmann scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Holtz scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Holy Cross is 3-1 when Issenmann posts two or more runs, but 3-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was David Wilson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI.

Holy Cross always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Henry only posted an OBP of .364.

Holy Cross' win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-11. As for St. Henry, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-9 record.

Looking ahead, Holy Cross will welcome Bishop Brossart at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Indians' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Henry, they will head out to take on Beechwood at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
