Softball Recap: Corona del Mar Comes Up Short

Corona del Mar came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 18-2 to the Newport Harbor Sailors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sailors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in March.

Corona del Mar saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Corona del Mar has also been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Newport Harbor, their record is now 9-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Corona del Mar will face off against Edison at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newport Harbor, they will take on Portola at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Sailors are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
