Volleyball Recap: Victor Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Penfield

Victor faced Penfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Blue Devils took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. The loss continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost nine in a row.

Victor couldn't get the win, but they sure gave Penfield a tough time in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 32-30, 17-25, 25-16.

Julia Mirabelli paced Victor's offense, picking up 23 kills. Mirabelli got some help from Sophia Heltemes and her 24 assists. Heltemes was also solid from the service line: she led the team with six aces.

Victor's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6-4. As for Penfield, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Victor will welcome Hilton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Penfield has already played their next contest (against Rush-Henrietta), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
