Baseball Recap: Triumph Charter Wins Going Away Against Valley Oaks CES

Triumph Charter's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They blew past the Valley Oaks CES Vanguards 20-9. Considering the Jaguars have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Javier Herrera made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Triumph Charter is 3-1 when Herrera allows two or fewer earned runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Herrera was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

In other batting news, Simon Trujillo was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Richard Reyes was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.

Triumph Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Oaks CES only posted an OBP of .435.

Triumph Charter's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-7. As for Valley Oaks CES, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Triumph Charter will take on rival Discovery at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Valley Oaks CES is set to face off against their familiar foe Lakeview Charter at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
