The Prospect Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Live Oak Acorns at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Prospect is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Prospect managed to slip by Piedmont Hills the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Prospect came up short against Piedmont Hills on Wednesday, falling 11-0. That makes it the first time this season the Panthers have let down their home crowd.
Meanwhile, Live Oak waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 14-4 victory. While the Acorns didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Julianna Altamirano made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ava Chapman was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Tilly Hill was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
Live Oak hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.
Prospect's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3. As for Live Oak, their record now sits at 8-1.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Prospect hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. However, it's not like Live Oak struggles in that department as they've averaged .434. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Prospect was able to grind out a solid win over Live Oak in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, winning 4-1. Will Prospect repeat their success, or does Live Oak has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
