Baseball Game Preview: Topsail Pirates vs. Laney Buccaneers

Topsail is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Laney is on a ten-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Pirates will welcome the Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Topsail is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Hoggard on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-1. The Pirates' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, while Laney put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for North Brunswick. The Buccaneers put the hurt on the Scorpions with a sharp 6-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Buccaneers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

TJ Ziermann was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, Carston Wedemeyer and Jack Holliman did most of the damage at the plate: Wedemeyer went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Holliman went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Holliman has posted since back in March.

Laney's victory bumped their record up to 18-4. As for Topsail, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-10.
