Softball Game Preview: Scholars Guild Academy Spartans vs. Trinity Prep Lions

For the first time this season, Scholars Guild Academy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Monday. They are taking a road trip to square off against the Trinity Prep Lions at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Scholars Guild Academy has three straight wins, Trinity Prep has 13 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Friday, everything went Scholars Guild Academy's way against Covington Academy as Scholars Guild Academy made off with a 9-2 victory. Fans of the Spartans have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Kerrigan Welch was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Welch was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Madison Kenny was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Trinity Prep scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Covington Academy by a score of 15-13.

Trinity Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Scholars Guild Academy, their record now sits at 3-0.

Scholars Guild Academy took their win against Trinity Prep in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Scholars Guild Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
