Basketball Game Preview: St. Johns Country Day Spartans vs. Centennial Eagles

The St. Johns Country Day Spartans will take on the Centennial Eagles at 8:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

St. Johns Country Day is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Middleburg: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Spartans blew the Broncos out of the water with a 77-37 final score. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now won five in a row.

St. Johns Country Day found their leader in sophomore Kendall Proffitt, who shot 7-for-13 from deep and dropped a double-double with 31 points and 17 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Proffitt has scored at least a third of the Spartans' points. Sophia Mejias was another key player, shooting 43% from the field en route to 15 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

St. Johns Country Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Centennial was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Heritage 64-35.
