Softball Game Preview: Cardinal Mooney Cougars vs. Booker Tornadoes

Cardinal Mooney has gone a perfect 3-0 against Booker recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cougars will take on the Tornadoes at 6:00 p.m. Cardinal Mooney is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.

Cardinal Mooney took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Saint Stephen's Episcopal as they made off with an 8-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Kaitlyn Will made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Olivia Lockhart was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Caroline Rooney was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Cardinal Mooney hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saint Stephen's Episcopal struck out ten times.

Meanwhile, Booker and Southeast finished up on equal footing with a 0-0 tie on Thursday.

Cardinal Mooney pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. Booker's tie gives them a new season record of 4-5-1.
