Basketball Game Preview: Callaway Cavaliers vs. Salem Seminoles

The Callaway Cavaliers will challenge the Salem Seminoles at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Callaway was handed a heart-breaking two-point defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Rutland on Saturday. Callaway was the clear victors by a 74-51 margin over Rutland. The Cavaliers have beaten the Hurricanes the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Hurricanes has come to flipping the script.

Bryceton Sanders had a dynamite game for Callaway, shooting 4-for-7 from downtown and almost dropping a double-double with 16 points and nine assists. What's more, Sanders also posted a 57% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aj Williams, who posted 13 points and three steals.

Sanders wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Callaway was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Salem came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 57-51 W against the Hornets.

Callaway's win bumped their record up to 9-16. As for Salem, their victory bumped their record up to 12-16.
