Vernon took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Wewahitchka, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Yellowjackets narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Gators 8-7. The win was some much needed relief for the Yellowjackets as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Sophia Dorsey, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Lila Owens also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Wewahitchka, they dropped their record down to 4-14 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vernon will square off against Bozeman at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bucks have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Wewahitchka, they will challenge Altha at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Gators surely won't give up without a fight.
