Baseball Recap: Pickens Blue Flame vs. Seneca Bobcats
Pickens had lost six straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-18 to make it seven. They fell 4-1 to the Seneca Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 last Tuesday.
As for Seneca, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.
For Seneca's part, Alex Bene looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Bene has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kade Scruggs was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. William Cutshall was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double.
Looking ahead, Pickens will challenge Travelers Rest at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Devildogs will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Blue Flame surely won't give up without a fight. As for Seneca, they will square off against Abbeville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
