Softball Recap: Monroe County Has No Trouble Against Fairdale

Monroe County never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Fairdale on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 21-15 win. Considering the Falcons' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Bryna Cain made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Monroe County got a massive performance out of Maelee Ford, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs and four RBI. Those four runs gave Ford a new career-high. Kylie Norris was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Monroe County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.

Monroe County's record now sits at 3-7-1. As for Fairdale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Monroe County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-10 loss against Breckinridge County on the 19th. As for Fairdale, they will challenge Pleasure Ridge Park at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
