Preview: Valor Christian Eagles vs. Arvada West Wildcats
Valor Christian is 6-1 against Arvada West since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Valor Christian Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Arvada West Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Valor Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Arvada West likes a good challenge.
On Monday, Valor Christian faced Cherry Creek in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Valor Christian took a 66-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cherry Creek. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite their defeat, Valor Christian saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Emma Lytle, who scored 14 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Vansickle, who scored 14 points along with six assists and four steals.
Arvada West can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They came out on top against Monarch by a score of 57-44. With that win, Arvada West brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
Saylor Swanson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points along with five rebounds. Avery Harrison was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Valor Christian's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-4. As for Arvada West, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Valor Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Arvada West struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
