Canton hadn't done well against East Peoria recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Little Giants skirted past the Raiders 5-3. For the Little Giants, this counts as revenge for the 14-8 victory the Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Tori Birch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Makaylynne Correa, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Weis, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Canton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Canton and bumps their season record up to 15-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for East Peoria, their loss dropped their record down to 14-10.

Canton and East Peoria should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Little Giants will take on Morton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (69 vs. 353). Meanwhile, East Peoria (ranked 50th) will meet Limestone (ranked 213th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
