Basketball Recap: Citrus Hill Takes a Loss

Citrus Hill suffered their biggest defeat since December 3, 2024 on Thursday. They were beaten by the Hemet Bulldogs 83-38. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 718th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 289th).

Despite the loss, Citrus Hill still got an impressive performance from Jerren White, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. White is becoming a predictor of Citrus Hill's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 4-1 (and 10-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kason Steward, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 13 points.

Leading Hemet to victory were Matthew Torres and Quinton Skinner. Torres went 9 for 12 en route to 24 points and six assists, while Skinner went 9 of 12 on his way to 21 points and six rebounds. Torres' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kee-Esoul Pitchford, who went 5 for 7 en route to 11 points and eight boards.

Citrus Hill is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-12. As for Hemet, the victory (which was their 20th in a row) raised their record to 20-2.

Citrus Hill has already played their next match, a 67-50 win against Vista del Lago on the 3rd. As for Hemet, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-39 victory against Lakeside on the 3rd.
