West Johnston and South Johnston are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2022, but not for long. The Wildcats will host the Trojans at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While West Johnston's victory against Western Harnett wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Eagles 3-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-match losing streak.

West Johnston was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-28, 25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 16-14.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday South Johnston sidestepped Triton for a 3-2 win. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (109-107) South Johnston actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 15-25, 27-29, 25-20, 15-12.

South Johnston's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for West Johnston, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

West Johnston came out on top in a nail-biter against South Johnston when the teams last played back in September, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
