Preview: Hazelwood West Wildcats vs. Parkway South Patriots

The Hazelwood West Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Parkway South Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Hazelwood West and three for Parkway South.

Hazelwood West pushed their score all the way to 58 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 59-58 to Mehlville.

Meanwhile, Parkway South was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 49-45 to Hazelwood East. While losing is never fun, Parkway South can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while Hazelwood East is ranked 105th).

Parkway South's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Eddie Ahearn, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Parker Wolf who scored 11 points. Ross Mcculla was another key contributor, scoring four points along with two steals and two blocks.

Hazelwood West's defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Parkway South, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Hazelwood West was able to grind out a solid win over Parkway South in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 52-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hazelwood West since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
