Football Recap: Willow Canyon Comes Up Short

Willow Canyon dropped down to 3-2 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They had to suffer through a 43-14 loss at the hands of the Tolleson Wolverines. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2015.

Tate Callan and Tobi Alade certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Callan threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns, while Alade picked up 86 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

As for Tolleson, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 39.8 points this season.

Tolleson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rico Blassingame led the charge by picking up 264 receiving yards and three TDs. With that strong performance, Blassingame is now averaging an impressive 128.8 receiving yards per game. Youngmin Lee was another key player, throwing for 309 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 15.5 yards per attempt.

Coming up, Willow Canyon will challenge West Point at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Wildcats' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Tolleson, they will be playing at home against Kellis at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolverines will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.4 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
