Baseball Recap: Highland Has No Trouble Against Jersey

Highland won the last time they faced Jersey and things went their way on Monday too. The Bulldogs blew past the Panthers 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won five matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Chase Knebel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Highland is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise. Knebel was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braxdon Decker, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Garrin Stone, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Highland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Highland is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Jersey, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5.

Highland will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
