Football Game Preview: Boyd County Spartans vs. Crofton Warriors

Two dominant backs in Ben Schmitz and Tyson Jackson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Boyd County Spartans are taking a road trip to face off against the Crofton Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Boyd County has given up an average of 36.9 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Boyd County came up short against Hartington-Newcastle and fell 46-36. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Boyd County got top-tier performance from Barrett Koenig, who rushed for 119 yards and a pair of scores. Koenig also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Spartans are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Crofton faced Wausa/Osmond in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Warriors blew past Wausa/Osmond, posting a 50-12 victory. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-6.

Boyd County now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Crofton, they pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Boyd County took a serious blow against Crofton in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 40-6. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
