Hamilton (Mich.) captured the lead on a rushing touchdown with 1:00 left in the fourth quarter to upset
Zeeland West (Zeeland, Mich.) 42-38 on Saturday.
After trailing 27-14 at the half, the Dux went ahead on a touchdown run by
Braden Werley with 2:00 remaining in the third.
By the end of the third, Hamilton found itself trailing by 3 points as Zeeland West captured the lead thanks to four scores in the quarter. ZW scored on a Werley touchdown run, a two-point conversion, a touchdown run by Werley and a two-point conversion in the quarter.
The Zeeland school's Werley played well. The senior halfback threw one touchdown and ran for two touchdowns.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which the Dux took, 44-14.
The win was a nice bounce back for HHS, which lost to Holland Christian last week, 26-24. The defeat comes as a step back for Zeeland West, which notched a 50-6 victory over Unity Christian in its previous outing.
Hamilton (5-4) will play a Ottawa-Kent - Green game against Unity Christian next week, while Zeeland West (5-3) will take on Holland also in a Ottawa-Kent - Green game.
