Baseball Game Preview: Eastern Comets vs. Southwood Knights

Eastern is a perfect 4-0 against Southwood since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Comets will venture away from home to face off against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. Eastern will be strutting in after a victory while Southwood will be coming in after a loss.

Eastern came out on top against Tri-Central on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Comets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Trojans a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Southwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 13-10 to Lewis Cass. Even if the Knights couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Dalton Barney made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Duke Sparks was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Eastern and bumps their season record up to 16-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Southwood, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.

Eastern skirted past Southwood 5-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
