Basketball Game Preview: United Lions vs. Conemaugh Township Indians

The United Lions will venture away from home to take on the Conemaugh Township Indians at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in United's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

United is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since February 12, 2024 on Saturday. They came up short against Northern Cambria, falling 77-57. The game marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Conemaugh Township's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cambria Heights. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Indians came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Highlanders are ranked 537th).

United will need focus on slowing down Brennan Lohr, one of several Conemaugh Township players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Stephen Stango, who put up 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Conemaugh Township smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive boards in five consecutive games.

United's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Conemaugh Township, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.

United couldn't quite finish off Conemaugh Township in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 and fell 62-60. Can United avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
