The Granville Blue Aces will challenge the Bishop Watterson Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Granville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand St. Francis DeSales a 10-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Blue Aces considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Wilson Wells made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Wells was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Theo Talbott, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Watterson). Everything went their way against South on Tuesday as they made off with a 22-0 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Anthony DeMassimo looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Michael Mulligan was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Burleson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI.
Bishop Watterson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .738. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bishop Watterson pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Granville, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That lines up perfectly with their 18-6 record this season.
Granville suffered a grim 16-7 defeat to Bishop Watterson in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can the Blue Aces avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
