Basketball Recap: Jasper Vikings vs. Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils
Jasper lost against Mortimer Jordan back in February of 2020 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Jasper Vikings were beaten by the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils 64-30. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Blue Devils are ranked 26th).

Despite the loss, Jasper saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gracen Norris went 5 of 9 en route to 14 points. Those 14 points gave Norris a new career-high.
Mortimer Jordan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mattie Machen led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kendra Davis, who went 6 for 14 on her way to 14 points in addition to five boards and four steals.
Jasper's defeat dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Mortimer Jordan, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jasper will square off against Locust Fork at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
