Basketball Recap: Highland Prep West Comes Up Short

Highland Prep West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss. They took a blow against the Fountain Hills Falcons, falling 71-5. While losing is never fun, the HORNETS can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Falcons are ranked 61st).

Seilah Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Fountain Hills, dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten steals. Smith has been hot, having posted four or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Lewis, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 14 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Highland Prep West's defeat dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Fountain Hills, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.

Highland Prep West wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 28-15 loss against St. John Paul II Catholic on the 24th. Fountain Hills has also already played their next contest, a 62-7 win against Madison Highland Prep on the 24th.
