Emerson had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2 goals) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Independence Knights a 1-0 shutout. Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 215th in Texas, while the Knights are ranked 553rd in Texas), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Emerson's one-goal win came courtesy of Izzy Valentini, which was the first she's scored this season.

Emerson's victory bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Independence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Emerson will welcome Lebanon Trail at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Emerson's last three games have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Independence, they will be playing at home against Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
