Basketball Recap: Mount Vernon Patriots vs. Freedom Prep Academy Eagles

Mount Vernon extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping them down to 0-2. They took a 60-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Freedom Prep Academy Eagles. The Patriots lost against the Eagles in their previous head to head back in December of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 61-27 score last time.

Mount Vernon lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Noah Adams, who posted 17 points and five rebounds. Hovhannes Mikayelyan was another key player, putting up 16 points and seven boards.

Freedom Prep Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their 28-point performance the game before.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Freedom Prep Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jonas Sosa, who went 9-for-20 to rack up 25 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Manuel Aguilera Hernandez, who earned 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals.

Mount Vernon will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Escalante at 7:00 p.m. on December 4. As for Freedom Prep Academy, they will head out to square off against St. Joseph at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
